Can You Buy Marijuana seeds in Illinois?
The state of Illinois opted to take on the issue of cannabis legalization in the 2010s. Before that, in 1978, a bill known as the Cannabis Control Act was signed into law. However, while this bill permitted medical marijuana use, it was just in theory. There was no actual or tangible plan in place to determine how patients would receive medical marijuana supply or the extent to which they were permitted to utilize cannabis as a treatment. Thankfully, then-Governor Pat Quinn signed another clear and workable statute allowing for the legalization of medical marijuana in 2013. The bill, known as the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act, provided a formal structure for the use of marijuana by medical patients suffering from a variety of illnesses. In addition, in 2016, marijuana possession was decriminalized and downgraded to a civil violation. The Illinois Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act was passed in 2019 and made marijuana legal for recreational and adult use. This became effective on January 1st, 2020.
Only people aged 21 and up are permitted to engage in any cannabis activity within the state’s borders, according to the law. Illinois residents can buy and transport up to 30 grams of marijuana buds, 0.5 grams of cannabis edibles, and 5 grams of cannabis concentrates and extracts. Non-residents and tourists, on the other hand, are allowed to buy and carry half of what residents are allowed. Medical marijuana patients are allowed to buy and carry a “sufficient amount” of medical marijuana supplies, which is defined by the rules as 2.5 ounces of usable marijuana. Of course, the amount will be determined by a qualifying doctor’s prescription.
